The Aptos Keyboard Series proudly presents Santa Cruz pianist Tyler Hayford, one of those young epitomes of brilliance and early success. At age 10, in 2007, he received the Santa Cruz County Music Teachers Association “Barbara Call Award” for the “Most Promising Musician.” Later that year he performed at the Carmel Bach Festival. At 15, he won first place in the United States Open Music Competition. That year he was also one of only 23 pianists admitted to the Colburn Academy Piano Festival in Los Angeles; and in the same year he was the youngest of the six finalists in the 26th annual Celia Mendez Young Pianist’s Beethoven Competition.
Beyond his studies at Eastman, Tyler has received scholarships to attend the Meadowmount School of Music, the Colburn Academy Piano Festival, California Summer Music, and the Bowdoin International Music Festival. He was also the recipient from 2017-2018 of an $8,000 Nadenstedt YAG College Music Study Scholarship. Before working under the tutelage of Professor Douglas Humpherys at the Eastman School of Music, Tyler previously studied piano with Hans Boepple, and piano and organ with Vlada Volkova Moran. He served as the organist of Messiah Lutheran Church in Santa Cruz from 2013-2015, and at Penn Yan First Baptist Church from 2018-2019. |
Program: In celebration of Beethoven’s 250th birthday Tyler will perform four of his Sonatas: No. 7 in D Major, Op. 10, No. 3; No. 21 in C Major, Op. 53; No. 28 in A Major, Op. 101 and No. 31 in A-flat Major, Op. 110. |
